Our residents are your co-workers, church members, sisters and friends. They may have hit a tough spot and had to choose between paying their rent or car payment. Or maybe they fell ill and lost their job because of their extended absence. They're single women, mothers and even grandmothers. They're down, but not out. They need love, support and a listening ear - not a hand out. Although many of our ladies are from right here in Hall County, we've also had residents come to us from Metro Atlanta, neighboring counties and even from out-of-state.

We help our residents overcome the obstacles that originally lead to their homelessness. We provide for immediate needs like food, shelter, transportation and clothing; as well as addressing urgent medical needs. We are able to do what we do only because of the generous support of our donors. We are funded completely by individual and corporate donations. Although there are multiple mixed-gender, male oriented and domestic violence shelters in Northeast Georgia, there isn’t another women-only facility like My Sister’s Place in Hall or surrounding counties. In 2011, we served 63 women and children – an increase from the 35 women and children we served in 2010. Unfortunately, due to limited bed space, we were forced to turn away 354 potential residents – 204 of them children – in 2011 alone. In 2010, a lack of beds forced us to turn away 182 would-be-guests. We are in the process of raising funds to renovate our property at 2480 Martin Luther King Boulevard here in Gainesville to build a larger home, which will allow us to help twice as many women and children in need.
