My “Sister’s” Keeper: Ways to Help

Community support is the number one reason why My Sister’s Place has been a haven for a fresh start for hundreds of women and their children over the years.  It is because of your genuine concern for families in crisis that we are able to keep up the momentum, day after day, year after year. We rely on our supporters to not only help provide a roof over our residents’ heads, but to also help provide meals, various daily needs and transportation to look for work.

There’s always room for more helping hands at My Sister’s Place. Here are just a few ways you can be a hero for homeless women and children in the greater Hall County area. For more information, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Martha Howard, at volunteermsp@gmail.com.

  • Provide a meal- Many of our most devoted volunteers are working adults – and even busy retirees – who don’t have much time for hands-on activities at the shelter. That doesn’t mean they can’t help. Consider providing dinner for our women and children. Some families and groups come together to provide a weekly dinner, while others prefer to do it only once a month or even on a one-time basis. Talk it over with your Sunday school class, neighbors and your co-workers. You may be surprised at the results!
  • Take a call-  As you may or may not know, our “staff” is mostly a group of dedicated volunteers. We are always in need of willing spirits to cover the phones for a while. If you can pick up the phone and say, “Hello, thanks for calling My Sister’s Place,” you are equipped with all of the necessary skills! Training on procedures is provided. You can volunteer for a weekly or bi-weekly 4-hour shift.  Sorry guys, but due to MSP policies concerning unsupervised visitors, this opportunity is for ladies only.
  • Be a leader- We are always looking for volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors to help map out the future of MSP, plan events and provide oversight for our ministry. Fresh ideas are always appreciated and welcomed from men and women of all ages. Our board of directors meets quarterly for evening meetings. For more information about this opportunity, please email Brandee Thomas at bthomas@my-sisters-place.org or call 770-532-5111.
As always, monetary donations are greatly appreciated! They can be mailed to:
